4 'Smash And Grab' Vehicle Burglaries Reported In Darien: Police

The incidents were reported on Oct. 10 and 15.

DARIEN, CT — Darien police are investigating four "smash and grab" vehicle burglaries from Oct. 10 and 15, three of which occurred in the same Post Road parking lot on the same day.

On the evening of the 10th in the parking lot at 800 Post Road, a thief or thieves smashed the windows of three vehicles - a 2010 Acura MDX, a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2013 Toyota Highlander - and stole items from them.

"The owner of the Acura reported she had been in the Bar Method studio at 800 Post Road between approximately [7:30 p.m. and 8:20 p.m.]," wrote Darien police in a statement. "When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered that the left rear window had been smashed and her wallet was now missing from the floor. The wallet was described as a silver colored Delux brand wallet valued at $25.00. Also in the wallet was $10.00 cash, a driver’s license and 6 credit cards.

"The owner of the Chevrolet reported she had been in the Bar Method studio at 800 Post Road between approximately [7:15 p.m. and 8:20 p.m.] When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered that the right rear window had been smashed and that her purse was now missing. The purse was described as an Italian leather purse, color black, valued at $200.00. Inside the purse was a red Marc Jacobs wallet valued at $200.00. Also taken was a driver’s license and nine credit cards.

"The owner of the Toyota reported her vehicle had been parked in the lot at 800 Post Road between approximately [7:36 p.m. and 8:20 p.m.] When she returned to her vehicle, she discovered that the front right passenger window had been smashed and that her wallet was now missing from the console area. The wallet was described as a light blue Kate Spade wallet valued at $50.00. The wallet contained five credit/debit cards, her operator’s license and vehicle insurance card."

Police said the fourth break-in occurred in the afternoon on the 15th at the St. John's Cemetery on Camp Avenue when a 2010 Honda Accord was burglarized.

"The victim, a resident of New Jersey, was in the cemetery paying respects to a relative’s grave," wrote police. "Between approximately [2:50 p.m. and 3 p.m.], the driver’s side rear window was broken and a purse was taken from the vehicle."

The purse was described as a tan colored Vince Camuto brand purse valued at $100, which contained a
black Coach brand wallet, also valued at $100. The wallet contained $150 in cash, an ID card and several debit and credit cards.
