4 Vehicles Reported Stolen In Darien, Cops Say

And two were recovered, including one that had been reported stolen out of Berlin was recovered in town.

DARIEN, CT — Four vehicles were reported stolen in Darien between Nov. 14 and 16, according to police, and a vehicle reported stolen out of Berlin, CT was recovered in town.

In the first case, a 2014 Subaru Forester and 2012 Toyota Highlander were stolen from the same home on Archer Lane during the overnight hours on the 14th. Both vehicles had been left unlocked, but a third locked vehicle at the home was undisturbed.

"The Forester was reported as having golf clubs ($3000 value), $20 in cash, Sunglasses ($100 value), paddle ball equipment ($300 value) and an EZ Pass Transponder ($50 value) inside the vehicle." police said. "The Highlander was reported as having 5 pair of Sunglasses ($1,200 value), $25 in cash, clothing, and an EZ Pass Transponder ($50 value)."

Police and the owners saw tire tracks leading from where the vehicles had been parked, driving across the front lawn, and down onto the street.

"The complainant stated that his key ring, which had keys to both vehicles as well as his residence, had been left inside the Highlander."

In the second incident, a 2019 Ford Expedition that had been rented from Enterprise was reported stolen from the driveway of a home on Cherry Street on the 14th. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside, according to police.

Also on the 14th, Darien police recovered a stolen 2019 Honda Pilot that had been abandoned on St. Johns Place.

"A DMV check showed the vehicle had been stolen from Berlin, CT on November 12th," police said, adding that the vehicle had minor damage to the rear bumper.

While investigating the vehicle, police officers found a FedEx package that had been stolen from a Kensett Lane home in Darien.

"The addressee of the package was contacted, who confirmed that they were missing a package that had been reported delivered by the carrier," police said. "The contents of the package contained humidifier parts, cleaning products, and a book. Officers reported that the cleaning products were no longer in the package."

On the 16th, a 2011 Subaru Outback was reported stolen from the driveway of a home on Highland Avenue.

In this case, the complainant said that the vehicle had been "locked and both sets of keys were still in their possession."

The vehicle was soon found by officers who were canvassing officers at the intersection of Academy Street and Fairview Avenue.

"There were no signs of forced entry, but the rear passenger window was completely open," police said. "The vehicle was still locked and the ignition had no signs of tampering."
