5 CT Communities Among 100 Safest In Country: Report
Safewise has ranked five of Connecticut's towns among the top 100 safest in the country.

Five Connecticut communities made Safewises’ Safest Cities in America 2018 list. On average the top 100 safest communities reported eight property crimes for every 1,000 residents, which is 67 percent less than the national average. Violent crimes were also low with many communities on the list experiencing zero in the category.
Safewise reviewed 2016 FBI crime report statistics and population data and eliminated towns that fell below a certain population threshold along with those that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.
“Our evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city,” Safewise said. “If there was a tie, we also factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). To level the playing field, we calculated the rate of crimes per 1,000 people in each city. This makes it easier to directly compare the likelihood of these crimes occurring in cities with vastly different populations.”
