The victim had accidentally parked in a spot that lacked a sign designating that it was a handicapped parking space, police said. The victim then heard a BMW honk while he was entering the building and saw the elderly woman walk up to his vehicle and make several passes over the hood.

Upon observing, the victim asked the woman what she was doing and she said, “You parked in a handicapped spot.”

The woman was identified as Lucy Tweedy, 83, of Darien.

Officers observed the damage and saw a two foot scratch across the front of the victim’s vehicle, a 2011 Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck. Police said the scratch looked fresh.

When police asked if she had keyed the car, Tweedy said, “To the best of my knowledge I did not.”

She said she walked to the front of the car and did not see a handicap sign in the victim’s vehicle.

Based on the investigation, she was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and given a misdemeanor summons.

She was released on a promise to appear in court.
