Darien Arts Center Launches Summer Musical Theater Audition Prep for Middle and High School Students

Expert Instructor Mick Jutila Leads Comprehensive Audition Preparation Program Starting April 25

Darien, Connecticut – The Darien Arts Center is excited to announce Musical Theater Audition Prep, a dynamic five-week program designed to equip middle and high school students with the skills, confidence, and technique needed to succeed at summer auditions. Led by accomplished actor, musician, and NYU-trained instructor Mick Jutila, this class covers all aspects of musical theater auditions from song selection and vocal performance to acting technique and stage presence.

Whether students are auditioning for summer productions, high school musicals, or community theater, this class provides personalized coaching and practical strategies to help them make a strong impression. Jutila brings extensive professional experience from his work in regional theaters across North America, where he has performed in productions including The Light in the Piazza, Brigadoon, and Le Nozze di Figaro.

This class is designed to demystify the audition process and give students the tools to bring their best selves to every audition. Students will work on song selection, character development, performance technique, and the mental preparation that helps performers shine under pressure.

About Mick Jutila

Mick Jutila is a New York-based actor, musician, singer, and teacher with a Master's degree in Music Performance from NYU and an advanced certificate in Vocal Pedagogy. He holds two Bachelor's degrees—a BFA in Acting and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Michigan University. With nine years of voice teaching experience, many of his students are now performing professionally or attending top arts programs throughout the country. Mick has performed for regional theaters across North America and is passionate about inspiring students to discover their artistic potential.
