Richard Joseph Saverine passed away on May 29, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of stories, adventures, and cherished memories.

Born to Joseph and Josephine (D’Arrigo) Saverine, Richard grew up with a love of sports, the outdoors, and the pursuit of new experiences. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Linda Anne Saverine Santarella, and his beloved niece, Stacey Santarella Hickey.

Richard is survived by his brother, Robert Paul Saverine; his nieces Dana Donahue and Brooke Saverine Kreitler; his nephews, Sloan Saverine and Daniel Santarella; four grand-nieces and two grand-nephews all of whom will miss his steady presence, sense of humor, and enthusiasm for life.

A graduate of Lafayette College and later Georgetown University, where he earned his degree in orthodontics, Richard went on to serve his country as a dentist in the United States Air Force for four years, reaching the level of Captain. Following his military service, he built a respected career helping generations of patients improve their smiles.

Richard lived life with energy and curiosity. In his younger years, he was an avid motorcyclist. He was also a passionate skier who spent countless days on mountains throughout North America, always eager for the next run and the next adventure.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Darien, CT, and his family and friends always knew at his home they would find someone ready to share a story, discuss a game, or reminisce about an adventure on the water or the slopes.

He loved sports of every kind, but baseball held a special place in his heart. A devoted Yankees fan, Richard often found himself facing a familiar problem: games that started (or ended) too late. His solution was simple. He would
climb into bed, turn on the radio, and listen as the Yankees played into the night, drifting off to the familiar voices of the broadcast.

Of all his passions, boating may have been his greatest. He proudly owned a 46-foot boat named Someday. The name carried a story that perfectly captured Richard’s spirit. As a boy, he could often be heard saying, “I’ll get a boat someday.” Years later, he did exactly that. The boat stood as a reminder that dreams, when pursued with patience and determination, can become reality.

He will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to his profession, his service to his country, and his lifelong ability to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. His journey carried him across mountains, waterways, highways, ballparks, and countless friendships. Though he has now embarked on his final voyage, the memories he leaves behind will continue to guide and comfort those who knew and loved him.

Fair winds and following seas Richard.

Memorial service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to the Darien YMCA.
