DARIEN, CT — Beginning July 1, entry to the Darien Recycling and Refuse Center, including the Swap Shop, will require a 2026-2027 dump permit.
Permits are valid from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, according to the town's Department of Public Works.
Permit fees vary based on a resident's household and trash collection service.
Residents without garbage collection service pay $150, which includes two permits. A third permit is available for an additional $50.
Residents who use a licensed Darien trash hauler may purchase permits for $50 with proof of service. The fee includes two permits.
Residents age 65 and older are eligible for one free permit per household. Additional permits cost $50 each.
Permits may be purchased online through the Department of Public Works page on the town website or by mail or in person at the Public Works Office in Room 208 of Town Hall.
The town accepts checks payable to the Town of Darien, cash, Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Credit cards must be swiped in person, and Apple Pay is not accepted.
New residents must provide proof of residency, such as a license or utility bill, current vehicle registration and a copy of a trash hauler invoice. Applicants are also asked to bring a copy of their driver's license.
