DARIEN, CT — An online fundraiser has been launched to help the family of a man who was killed in a hit-and-run collision on I-95 in Darien on Oct. 13.
Alexander Rivera, 56, of Tobyhanna, Pa., was killed after he was struck by a pickup truck consistent with a brown 2022-2026 Toyota Tundra, according to the Connecticut State Police.
Police said the pickup truck should be missing a side-view mirror and have sideswipe damage, including damage to the metal sidestep of the vehicle.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:49 a.m. in the area of the I-95 northbound Darien rest area.
The fundraiser was created by Richard Gaydos, also of Tobyhanna, Pa., who was a friend of Rivera.
"Our hope is to help ease some of that burden by providing support for funeral expenses, household bills, and the needs of his wife and daughters as they try to find their footing in a world that has changed forever," Gaydos wrote in the fundraiser description
"Alex was more than a coworker. He was a friend, and his loss has deeply affected everyone who knew him. While we cannot take away the pain his family is experiencing, we can come together to remind them that they are not alone and that there is a community of people who care about them and want to help," Gaydos added.
The fundraiser had raised nearly $20,000 as of Friday.
An investigation remains ongoing. State police are asking any witnesses and people with video evidence or a dash camera to contact Trooper Daniel Sottini at Daniel.Sottini@ct.gov, or Troop G in Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.
