Frederick H. Leonhardt Fund – The New York Community Trust Grants $15,000 to P2P Scholarship Fund

Each year Person-to-Person awards scholarships to college students who have demonstrated academic excellence, often providing the financial assistance necessary to close the gap between what a student is able to contribute from earnings and loans and the amount required for tuition, books and fees.

For the 2010/11 academic year, P2P received a $15,000 grant from the Frederick H. Leonhardt Fund – The New York Community Trust for the agency's Scholarship Program.

P2P board member and Scholarship Program committee chair Rebecca Wilson notes that The Frederick H. Leonhardt Fund – The New York Community Trust has been a long-time supporter of this program. "This grant is an important one and we appreciate the fact that they have chosen to approve this funding once again."

Over the past five years, Person-to-Person has awarded nearly $1.6 million in scholarship assistance to more than 700 college students, according to Wilson. With students earning degrees from a variety of colleges and universities, which this year included Harvard University, Northeastern University and University of Notre Dame, Wilson is most thankful for the generosity of the individuals and institutions that underwrite these scholarships. "The Scholarship Program offers an enormous return on investment by creating a lifetime of possibility for young adults who might not otherwise be able to realize their goal of higher education."
