ATM Skimmer Investigated in Darien
A would-be thief tried to install a skimming device that steals customer debit card data.

DARIEN, CT — Police are investigating after a man attempted to install an ATM skimming device at the Fairfield County Bank on the Post Road.
The male suspect attempted to apply a skimming device to the bank's ATM Jan. 20 around 5:44 p.m., but had some difficulty and gave up on the effort, police said.
Skimming devices are attached over an ATM's card reader. A customer's transaction goes through without any issues, but the device captures and stores the card number, police said. Sometimes a small camera is able to record a customer entering in a pin number as well.
