Attempted House Burglary While Elderly Woman Inside: Darien PD

The attempted break-in occurred on April 8.

DARIEN, CT — Darien police are investigating an attempted house burglary from last week in which a 71-year-old woman was inside the home at the time, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at a home on Stephanie Lane a little after 11 a.m. on April 8.

The woman was in bed at about 9 p.m. on the 8th when she "heard activity around the bilco doors" at the rear of the home, and also heard the sound of breaking glass. Police said she checked the downstairs but did not see any broken windows, so she didn't report it at the time.

"Officers checked the residence but it appeared that nothing had been taken and it looked as though entry was not gained," wrote Darien police in a statement. "While checking the exterior of the residence, officers observed a set of footprints on top of the bilco doors. The complainant stated they were not her footprints; the complainant stated that her residence does have a security system but it was not activated on the night of the incident."
