The unemployment rate rises statewide and locally.

July jobs figures showed a rise in unemployment throughout Connecticut, and in Darien shared the bad news. The town's unemployment rate rose to 6.7 percent, with 40 more people looking for jobs than the month before.

In Connecticut, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.5 percent and the national rate is 8.3 percent.

“The phrase ‘worst economic downturn since the Great Depression’ is used so often, we’ve become immune to the words. But they’re true.  So, it should come as a surprise to no one that pulling the country and our state out of that downturn is hard. Really hard,” said . “But let me be clear: we are making progress, and I have every confidence we’ll continue to make progress.”
