
The City of Stamford will hold its Fourth of July fireworks show on Thursday, July 2, at Cummings Beach.
Sunset is scheduled for 8:31 p.m. that day, ad the fireworks show is slated to begin between then and 8:45 p.m.
A rain date is scheduled for July 3.
Parking restrictions and traffic changes will be in effect for the event in the Shippan area.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on July 2, no parking will be permitted on Jefferson Street, Magee Avenue, Shippan Avenue, Soundview Avenue, Willowbrook Avenue, Tupper Drive, Carter Drive, James Street, the parking lot off Shippan Avenue, Owen Street, McMullen Avenue, Auldwood Road, Lanark Road, Ocean Drive North, Chesterfield Road, Iroquois Road, Rippowam Road, Wampanaw Road and Myrtle Avenue.
Stamford police said vehicles parked in the restricted areas will be towed.
At 8 p.m., the intersection of Shippan Avenue and Magee Avenue will be closed to southbound traffic, with access limited to residents. At 8:30 p.m., Magee Avenue will be closed to all traffic.
Beginning at 9 p.m., Shippan Avenue from Wallace Street north will become a two-lane, one-way northbound roadway. Magee Avenue will also become a two-lane, one-way northbound roadway.
Following the fireworks display, traffic exiting Shippan Point will be directed north onto Magee Avenue and west onto Jefferson Street (Urban Transitway) to access Canal Street, Atlantic Street, Washington Boulevard and Interstate 95.
Traffic leaving Cummings Park via Shippan Avenue will be directed north on Shippan Avenue toward Elm Street, Myrtle Avenue, Interstate 95 and East Main Street. Traffic exiting Cummings Park via Soundview Avenue will be directed to use Soundview Avenue or Willowbrook Avenue to reach Cove Road.
Police said pedestrian traffic at Cummings Park will be released first after the event, followed by vehicles.
