Car And Catalytic Converter Thefts Continue To Hit Darien

Police responded to several reports of car thefts and catalytic converter thefts in recent days.

DARIEN, CT — Car and catalytic converter thefts continue to hit Darien, according to the latest update from the Darien Police Department.

Stolen Cars

On Aug. 10, police said a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen during the overnight hours from a home on Warner Drive. The jeep was unlocked and the keys were left inside.

Also on that day, officers met with a resident on Allen O'Neill Drive on a report that a 2018 Nissan Rogue was stolen in the overnight hours, police said. The resident said the car was unlocked but the keys were to inside. The next day, the car was recovered in the Bronx, N.Y. No arrests were made

Two motor vehicle burglaries were reported on Aug. 15 on West Avenue, police said. A resident said they happened in the overnight hours, and that both cars were unlocked, police said, noting that a key from one of the cars was reported missing.

Stolen Catalytic Converters

On Aug. 8, police said they met with a resident who said that while she was inside a business on the Post Road, she heard a commotion outside in the parking lot. Police said when she went outside, she saw a man trying to saw off her catalytic converter, while another man stood nearby.

Police said an employee confronted the men, but they continued to saw off the valuable car part before they left. Police said the men drove off in a royal blue Honda Accord with no plates. An investigation remains ongoing.

Two days later on Aug. 10, police said they responded to a report of a catalytic converter that was stolen from Dickinson Street. The resident said when he started his car in the morning, he discovered the part was missing, police said.
