Convicted Man In Darien Murder Seeks Release From Prison: Report
Wendall Hasan was convicted of the 1985 murder of George Tyler. He claims Dr. Henry Lee's testimony helped wrongly convict him. Lee says no.
DARIEN, CT — Wendall Hasan, the man convicted of the 1985 murder of Darien resident George Tyler, is seeking his release after more than 30 years in prison, because he claims erroneous testimony by forensics expert Dr. Henry Lee helped wrongly convict him, reports the Hartford Courant.
Lee testified that a substance found on a pair of Hasan's sneakers was blood that matched that of the Tyler and his wife, Rachel Tyler, who suffered serious injuries in the attack but survived.
The sneakers were re-tested in 2014 using new technology, according to the publication, and the substance found on them was not blood and the Tylers DNA also was not present.

During a press conference Thursday at the University of New Haven, where a college is named after him, Dr. Lee defended his work in the case, claiming that a different blood sample was used than the one he originally tested, writes the New Haven Register.
Hasan's attorney filed a lawsuit this week to be released and have the conviction overturned. He is currently serving an 80-year prison sentence for the murder.
