Darien 2024 Primary Elections: What To Know
There are two races on the Aug. 13 primary ballot in Darien.
DARIEN, CT — The main election event is set for November, but there are two preliminary bouts Darien residents will weigh in on next month.
Winners of Connecticut's Aug. 13 primary races will advance to become their party's banner bearer in the general election.
In Darien, residents who are registered Republicans may vote for one of two candidates to challenge incumbent Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy for a seat in the U.S. Senate. Gerry Smith, the first selectman of Beacon Falls, is running against Manchester native, businessman and Navy veteran Matthew Corey.

In the second race on the ballot, Republicans will choose between physician Michael Goldstein of Greenwich, and Fairfield finance executive Bob MacGuffie. Both men seek to challenge incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Himes to represent Fairfield and Connecticut's 4th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Absentee ballots are available online or through the Darien Town Clerk's office from now through Aug. 12. There is more information on the absentee ballot process at the Secretary of the State website.

Aug. 2 at noon is the deadline for unaffiliated voters who want to vote during the early voting period to enroll in a party.
Early voting will take place from Aug. 5 to Aug. 11 at Darien Town Hall during the following hours:
- Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Aug. 6, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Aug. 7, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Aug. 8, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Aug. 10, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Aug. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
If you are not yet registered but want to vote during the early voting period before the primary, you can file your voter registration application for the party holding a primary with the Greenwich Registrar of Voters by noon on the business day before you want to vote.
The deadline for registering in person with the Greenwich Registrar of Voters to vote on primary day is Aug. 12 at noon. It's also the deadline for unaffiliated voters to enroll in a party in person for voting in the primary.

Polls will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the following locations in Darien:
- Districts 1, 1-01, 1-02: Darien BOE building, 35 Leroy Ave.
- Districts 2, 5, 6: Mather Center, 2 Renshaw Road
- District 3: Noroton Heights Fire Department, 209 Noroton Ave.
- District 4: St. ohn Church Parish Center, 1986 Boston Post Road
