Darien Advances To Babe Ruth State Final [Video]

Andrew Enzor's RBI single in the sixth inning snaps a tie as Darien defeats New Milford, 4-3.

Darien advanced to the finals of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth state tournament on Tuesday with a 4-3 victory over New Milford at Ciucolli Field in Ridgefield.

The Darien team, which has already won the town's first Babe Ruth district title since 1969, snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the sixth inning.

After Jake Frasca kept New Milford in check in the top of the sixth, Stephen Barston led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Jack O'Neill then reached on an error before Andrew Enzor plated Barston with the go-ahead run.

Edward Gozdoz got the final two outs, sending Darien into Thursday's championship game.

After outscoring its first two opponents in the tournament by a combined margin of 25-1, Darien received a much tougher test Tuesday.

Darien opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Enzor scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded.

New Milford answered in the top of the second as Jack Titus doubled and scored on Cooper Knight's RBI single.

New Milford starter Tim Rehm then shut down Darien’s potent offense before giving way to Jackson Olson, who blanked Darien in the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, New Milford's Danny Gonzalez led off with a single. He stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Vinnie Pallisco's RBI single to put New Milford up, 2-1.

Darien quickly responded in the bottom half. Singles by Tyler Costantino and Jake Frasca set the table for Craig Miller, who tied the game with a ground-rule double.
