Darien Arts Center Stage Holds Auditions for Spring Production

DAC Stage Casting Adults for You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown

Auditions for the DAC Stage production of You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, by Clark Gesner, are being held on Monday, February 8 and Wednesday, February 10 from 7:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. in the DAC Weatherstone Studio. Several adults, ages 21 and older, need to be cast for the production, which will be directed by Peter Green and will run on weekends from April 22 through May 7.

You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown is a collection of short scenes and songs based on the Peanuts comic strip, originally created in 1967. The DAC Stage production will use the 1998 Broadway revival version’s score and script.

A multi-generational adult cast is sought and actors should come prepared to sing and read. Sheet music will be required for auditioning with songs that are not from You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. Music should be provided in the proper key, as the pianist will not have time to transpose music for singers who are auditioning.

Parts to be cast are:
Charlie Brown - vocal range of Bb to F. His main characteristics are either self-defeating stubbornness or admirable determined persistence to try his best against all odds. He can never win a ballgame but continues playing baseball; he can never fly a kite successfully but keeps trying. The show is a day in his life.

Lucy Van Pelt - vocal range of G to F, Mezzo-Soprano. She has the persona of a bossy, crabby, manipulative and selfish girl who thrives on telling everyone something. She needs assurance from either Schroeder or Charlie Brown.

Snoopy - vocal range of C to A, Tenor (will consider females as well as males for this role.) Snoopy is a human-like dog. His character is that of a dog who pretends to be a person (or who sometimes forgets he is a dog). This performer should be able to dance, or at least to ‘move really well.’ Tap would be helpful.

Schroeder - vocal range of Bb to Ab, Tenor. He is distinguished by his precocious skill at playing the toy piano, as well as by his love of classical music and the composer Ludwig van Beethoven in particular.

Linus Van Pelt - vocal range of Bb to E, Baritone. Though young, Linus is unusually smart and acts as the show’s philosopher. Despite Linus’ intelligence and mature vocabulary, he has juvenile aspects. For example, Linus is almost always depicted holding his blue security blanket and often sucking his thumb.

Sally Brown - vocal range of B to Bb, Soprano. Innocent and adorable at first glance, she is noticeably intelligent for her age and driven to succeed.

Rehearsals are two weeknights and one weekend day per week from February 23 until tech week. Performances are April 22, 23, 29, 30 & May 6 and 7 at 8 p.m., and April 24 & May 1 at 2 p.m.
