Darien Arts Center Welcomes Kitty Robertson to Kids' Theatre Department

Veteran actress to teach play building classes at the DAC.

The Darien Arts Center is pleased to welcome veteran actress and teacher Kitty Robertson to its Kids’ Theatre department to teach all ages.

Robertson has been an actress for over 30 years and boasts an impressive resume of professional accomplishments that includes theatre, film, radio, and television. As a teacher, she has led performance theatre classes at the elementary level for many years and has produced multiple children’s shows annually.

Robertson has enjoyed a long list of roles in community theatre, and calls theatre her passion. She has performed at the Westport Country Playhouse, with the Bridgeport Theatre Company, Playhouse on the Green and the Arch Villain Theatre Company among many others. In film, she has worked with Sony Pictures in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Carry Me Home with Cuba Gooding Jr. She has also worked with ABC Television on All My Children, One Life to Live and Guiding Light, and has appeared in many commercials. She has studied at the Atlantic Theatre School, HB Studio and The Independent Studio in New York City.

Robertson’s experience with grade school children is extensive as well. She is the founder, producer and director of after school performance classes at the Riverfield Elementary School in Fairfield, where she has introduced young actors to the magic of theatre through storytelling and improvisation. She has also worked with students to rehearse, produce and perform over 25 one act plays and has acted as the producer, director and stage manager for children’s talent shows. She is excited to bring her love of theatrical performance to DAC students. “I love the whole process of putting on a play with kids. It’s always fun and extremely worthwhile. Sometimes I wonder if they will pull it off, but they never disappoint me!” quipped Robertson.

Kitty Robertson will be sharing her talents with students at the Darien Arts Center in several Kids’ Theatre classes that include Play Building I for grades 2 & 3, and Play Building II for grades 4 through 6. These new classes will give kids an opportunity to create a show from soup to nuts with props, costumes, and scenery. No experience is necessary. Play Building I will take place on Tuesdays from 4:45-5:45 p.m., and Play Building II takes place on Tuesdays from 5:45-6:45 p.m. The 12 classes run from February 24 through May 19 and are $230 plus a $25 registration fee. Kitty will also be teaching Myths and Magic, a storytelling class for 3 and 4 year olds and Storytelling Through Improv for grades K through 2, both on Tuesdays.
