Virginia Tech-bound Ricky Hodges endured some control problems, but pitched well enough Wednesday to lead the Darien baseball team to an 11-5 victory over New Fairfield in the season opener for both teams.
The senior lefthander walked six while giving up five runs—three earned—in four innings. However, he surrendered only four hits.
Sophomore Dillon Duncan blanked New Fairfield over the final three innings in his first varsity apperance.

Scott Dempsey and Dan Pidgeon each had two hits and RBI for the Blue Wave, which is coming off the best season in school history, having reached the semifinals of the state tournament for the first time last year.
