The season ended for the Darien baseball team in heartbreaking fashion Saturday as the Blue Wave suffered a 1-0 loss in eight innings to Platt in the qualifying round of the CIAC Class L state tournament.
Platt finally broke through in the top of the eighth against Darien ace Andrew Hurn when Ryan Thayer tripled in the game's only run.
Hurn allowed only five hits over 7 1/3 innings with a walk and six strikeouts.

Dan Mrocza tossed three scoreless frames in relief to earn the win, yielding only one hit.
