DARIEN, CT — With more than an inch of rainfall in the past 24 hours, Darien's beaches were closed to swimming on Thursday, officials announced on Twitter.

The heavy rains on Wednesday resulted in elevated levels of bacteria in the waters off Weed Beach and Pear Tree Point Beach, but officials said that both beaches may reopen for swimming on Friday, weather pending.
