Blue Wave suffers 6-5 loss after squanding a three-goal lead

The Darien boys hockey team dropped a 6-5 overtime decision to West Haven on Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Rink after squandering a three-goal lead.
Jack Knowlton scored twp goals and Brendan Hathaway, Nick Bruno and George Gregory each tallied once for the Blue Wave, who built a 3-0 lead less than a minute into the second period.
Kyle Leyerzapf recorded the game-winner for West Haven with 2:52 remaining in overtime as the Blue Devils improved to 2-0.

Knowlton's second goal gave Darien a 5-3 lead with 10 minutes left in the third period, but West Haven's Mike Troiano scored two of his three goals in a span of less than two minutes, allowing the Blue Devils to tie.
Adam Mink and Jim Morrissey also scored for West Haven, which opened with a 5-0 win over Greenwich.

Max Rothston stopped 29 shots for Darien, which will take a 0-2 record into Monday's battle against archrival New Canaan (4 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink).
