Blue Wave Blanks Farmington In Class M Volleyball Tourney

The top-seeded Blue Wave advances to the semifinals against Fermi.

The Darien boys volleyball team showed little rust from a lengthy layoff Friday.

The top-seeded Blue Wave defeated No. 9 Farmington 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 in the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class M state tournament.

It was the first match for Darien (20-1) since dethroning Staples as the FCIAC champions a week ago. The Blue Wave had a bye in the first round.

Austin Cockerill had 17 kills, five service points, and eight digs for Darien. Calder Billhardt chipped in with 10 kills and 12 service points while Matt Lee added 35 assists, two kills, and six service points.

Darien will take on No. 5 seed Fermi in the semifinals on Tuesday at a time and site to be determined. Fermi advanced with a 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, 25-18 victory over Bloomfield.
