Darien Business Cited In Tobacco Compliance Checks: Police
Darien Police recently worked with state officials to conduct unannounced compliance checks at 16 Darien establishments.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien business was recently cited for selling tobacco/e-cigarette products to customers under the age of 21, according to police.
Darien Police, working with the State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program recently conducted unannounced inspections of 16 establishments in Darien that sell tobacco products and/or electronic cigarettes.
The Gulf Express convenience store, located at 180 Noroton Ave., was found to be non-compliant with state statutes earlier this month, police said.

"The inspections were performed in an effort to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of e-cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of 21. Retailers are required by state law to inspect the photo ID of anyone who appears under the age of 30 before selling a tobacco product or electronic cigarette," police said in a news release.
The employee at the business was given a citation with a fine of $300, according to police.
