Darien Car Burglary Suspects Arrested Following Crime Wave

"Everyone knows you can go to Darien for money," one suspect told police.

DARIEN, CT — Two juveniles were arrested following a wave of more than 20 car burglaries and two stolen vehicles.

Police began surveillance on suspects Feb. 22. Around 1 a.m. officers observed a male subject exit the driveway of a Post Road residence near the Stamford town line, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., police spokesman. A number of burglaries occurred in the area.

The 17-year-old Stamford resident was detained and a second suspect was located at his Stamford residence. He is also 17-years-old.

The first suspect was found to be involved in a number of car burglaries and the theft of a 2011 Land Rover from Darien on Feb. 16, Marron said.

He was found driving the vehicle in Stamford on Feb. 18. Additional arrests are expected in that incident. He was charged with 14 counts of third-degree burglary. He told officers, "Everyone knows you can go to Darien to get money," police said. He referred to the large number of unlocked vehicles with valuables inside.

The second juvenile was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary related to Thursday morning incidents.

During surveillance police noticed three other Stamford men dressed in all black running along the Post Road near the Stamford town line. They were detained, but there wasn't enough probable cause to connect them to recent criminal activity. They had significant criminal histories including violent felonies.
