Darien Celebrates America250!

The countdown to America250 has begun! As of January 1, 2026, the nation is just 184 days away from celebrating the Semiquincentennial of the United States. On July 4, 1776, America’s founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, announcing the thirteen colonies’ separation from Great Britain and articulating the ideals that would shape a new nation. That moment established July 4 as America’s birthday and Independence Day.

Middlesex Parish 250 is a local commemorative initiative honoring this milestone by exploring the Revolutionary War–era history of Darien and Rowayton, which were once united as a single community known as Middlesex Parish. History happened here! Through educational and cultural programming, the initiative highlights the people, places, and events that connected the local community to the nation’s founding.

The program brings together a broad coalition of local organizations, including the Mather Homestead, the Museum of Darien, Historic Rowayton, the Darien Library, the Rowayton Library, the Norwalk Historical Society, Lockwood-Matthews Mansion, the Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution NSDAR (Good Wife’s River Chapter), and the Darien Town Historian.

The community is invited to enjoy lectures, reenactments, exhibits, self-guided tours, and family-friendly activities that bring this shared history to life from now until July 4th. Highlights include a May 2nd reenactment at the Museum of Darien and Mather Homestead featuring the Fifth Connecticut Regiment and the 38th Regiment of Foot. Also, on June 13, Connecticut’s Open House Day, thirteen local historical sites will be open for a driving tour.
