Darien Cops Granted Accelerated Rehab for Gun Incident

DARIEN, CT- Officers Daniel Ehret and James Martin were granted use of accelerated rehabilitation by a judge.

Both men apologized in court for their actions and were also mandated to perform 50 hours of community service, according to Darien News.

An unoccupied vehicle owned by Martin, 41, was found with several gunshots to the exterior, according to State Police. Each officer was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peace and unlawful discharge of a firearm in October. Both have 10 years with the force.

The officers will be eligible to have their charges dismissed upon successful completion of the program. Both officers were 10-year veterans of the force at the time of the incident and were in good standing.

Both were disciplined by the Darien Police Commission in March.

Each received retroactive suspensions of 60 days, conditions on their work for 60 days, and restrictions on promotions and special assignments for two years. They were made to reimburse the town for 60 days of pay and benefits while they were on administrative leave.

They will also face potential termination without the ability to appeal if they violate the department’s general orders within the next five years.

State Police conducted the investigation into the officers’ alleged behavior.
