Darien Coronavirus Update: 75 Recoveries, First Selectman Says

Only one new coronavirus case was reported in town on Tuesday, according to First Selectman Jayme Stevenson.

DARIEN, CT — The number of Darien residents who have recovered from the new coronavirus (COVID-19) is 75, and assisted living facilities in town only have five total cases, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson announced on Wednesday.

Only one new coronavirus case was reported in town on Tuesday, bringing the total number of cases to 198.

Additionally, there were 13 hospitalizations, and the number of coronavirus-related deaths in Darien remains at four, Stevenson said. (Don't miss local and statewide news about coronavirus developments and precautions. Sign up for Patch alerts and daily newsletters.)

Beginning last week, the state reports that the town has had five deaths, but Darien Health Director David Knauf says that the discrepancy is due to one patient being listed as a COVID-19 death by medical examiners because that individual had respiratory issues.

Statewide, the number of confirmed cases rose by 374 to 30,995 as of Wednesday, and the number of deaths also increased by 85 to 2,718, according to state health officials.
