Darien Football Player Sets State Sack Record

Darien senior Mark Evanchick set the state all-time record for career sacks after helping shut out Staples 27-0.

Evanchick had three sacks during the game, which put his total to 62 1/2 sacks for his high school career, according to Gametime CT.

Evanchick surpassed Dwight Freeney (now with Arizona Cardinals) as the all-time sack leader in Connecticut. A message from Freeney was played on the scoreboard.

The win also means that Darien will play against neighbor rival New Canaan in the FCIAC championship.
