Darien Football Plays Final Preseason Tuneup [Video]

Defending FCIAC champions open the season next Saturday against Fairfield Ludlowe

In between water breaks and trainer visits to deal with cramps from the heat, the Darien football team fired on all cylinders in its final preseason scrimmage Friday against Norwalk's Brien McMahon.

Darien presented a balanced offense with a steady ground attack that moved the chains and an air assault that worked well under coverage and in the open field.

On the defensive side, the Blue Wave's pursuit and coverage were excellent until allowing McMahon to score a touchdown with just 27 seconds left in the game.

After a timeout and some refocusing by the coaching staff,  the defense stuffed McMahon’s attempt at a two-point conversion at the line of scrimmage.

Despite a limited number of starters returning from last year's FCIAC championship team, Blue Wave coach Rob Trifone likes what he sees and thinks his club can be in contention for another trip to the FCIAC title game.
