Darien Football Rebounds From First Loss to Beat Trinity Catholic, 49-21

Henry Baldwin threw four touchdowns for the Blue Wave, who routed the Crusaders.

Henry Baldwin threw four touchdown passes Saturday as Darien rebounded from last week's loss at Staples to rout Trinity Catholic 49-21 at Darien High School.

The Blue Wave (7-1) struck first when Ian Van Der Horn scored on a 10-yard run with 8:17 left in the first quarter. Darien then came roaring back and concluded its next drive on Baldwin's 15-yard touchdown pass to Peter Gesualdi.

The Blue Wave completed the first quarter with Baldwin's 30-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Gregory.

Trinity Catholic's offense then came alive as Kevin Epp's 50-yard touchdown run got the Crusaders on the board Trinity Catholic (3-5) struck again with 8:11 left in the first half on Jeff Cortese's 24-yard touchdown reception.

Darien responded with three unanswered scores before the end of the half: touchdown runs by Gesualdi and Mike Stovall and Baldwin's 26-yard touchdown strike to Harlan Smith.

In the second half, Michael Davis added a score for Trinity Catholic and Gesualdi caught another touchdown pass from Baldwin with 11 minutes left.

Darien next plays Bassick on Saturday in its final home game of the season.
