DARIEN, CT — Darien High School is among the top public high schools in the state, according to a new ranking recently released by U.S. News & World Report.
U.S. News reviewed 25,000 schools and ranked 17,680 of them, including 206 in Connecticut.
Of the top 100 schools in Connecticut, DHS is ranked fourth. Nationally, DHS is ranked 289th, the report says.

Schools were judged and ranked on six factors: college readiness, state assessment proficiency, state assessment performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rate.
"The U.S. News & World Report school rankings is a continued affirmation of our talented students and staff, and a community committed to supporting educational excellence," Superintendent of Darien Public Schools Dr. Alan Addley told Patch.

Notably, DHS ranked third in Connecticut in state assessment proficiency: aggregated scores on math, reading and oftentimes science state assessments that students may be required to pass for graduation
In Connecticut, the top high school is Marine Science Magnet High School of Southeastern in Groton, followed by Staples High School in Westport.
Marine Science is ranked 211th nationally, and Staples is ranked 240th.
The other Fairfield County schools in the top 10 in Connecticut besides Darien and Staples are Weston High School (sixth), New Canaan High School (eighth), and Greenwich High School (ninth).
The top high school in the U.S. is The Early College at Guilford in Greensboro, N.C.
