Darien High School Senior Receives DAR Good Citizen Award
The award is given to a DHS senior who exemplifies the qualities of patriotism, citizenship, dependability and service to community.

DARIEN, CT — Darien High School senior Grace Althoff is the recipient of the 2022-2023 National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award.
An annual presentation of Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter DAR, this award is given to a Darien High School senior who best exemplifies the qualities of patriotism, citizenship, dependability and service to community.
Althoff was selected to receive the prestigious national award by the faculty and the senior class at DHS. She will receive her award pin and certificate from Darien’s DAR Chapter Good Citizen Chairman Robin Wakeman Salmans at a reception on Dec. 11 at the Museum of Darien.

At DHS, Althoff is a member of the girls volleyball at tennis team, where she serves as captain. She is also part of the DHS Wind Ensemble Band and plays both piccolo and flute, and is the flute section leader.
Academically, Althoff is a member of the National Honor Society. Her varied activities also include serving as a member of the Spanish Outreach Club, where she belongs to the Spanish National Honor Society.

Grace is a member of Post 53 and is first aid, CPR & NREMT certified, and is an EMT. She serves as an ambulance driver and is a CREWS officer with over 250 hours of volunteer duty a month.
Following graduation from DHS, Althoff spires to attend college and become a nurse. Althoff is the daughter of Gail and Oliver Althoff of Briar Brae Road.
Membership in the DAR is open to any woman over the age of 18 who can trace her direct lineage to a patriot who served or gave material aid to the cause for American independence during the Revolutionary War. For more information, click here.
