Darien HS Racers Ski Through Ice and Ruts on Course

Co-captains Graham Skeats and Chris von Stuelpnagel race through the icy course

Darien, CT. January 21, 2015 – The Darien High School Ski Team raced on icy snow and, as the night wore on, ruts in the trails against high school ski teams representing Cheshire, Fairfield Prep, Staples, Westbrook and Laurelton Hall at the Mt. Southington Ski Area. Some the largest high school ski teams raced last night with 437 racers participating and running on the four side-by-side courses set by the mountain staff.


The Girls Varsity Team with a time of 371.33 finished 9th defeating Laurelton Hall 439.34 and Westbrook DSQ while losing to Cheshire 350.45and Staples 333.63. The Boys Varsity Team with a time of 341.47 finished 12th losing to Cheshire 300.51, Fairfield Prep 285.90, and Staples 286.95.


Girls’ times this week were Katharine Graham 51.83 (Co-captain), Maggie Skeats 54.16, Carly Schoudel 60.72, Christina Molkenthin 66.88, Maddie Corman 68.85, Maggie Reilly 68.89, Victoria Klarer 72.21, Emma Keleghan 74.62, Sammie Berry 88.83 and Taylor Hart DSQ (Co-captain).

Boys’ times this week were Graham Skeats 51.98 (Co-captain), Chris von Stuelpnagel (Co-captain) 52.69, Wil Brandon 56.05, Slater Lovegrove 58.45, Grant Noble 59.90, Hayden Nackley 62.40, AJ Scolaro 67.28, Sean Collins DSQ, Brooks Daley DSQ, and Ben Wilson DSQ.


Coach Brian Zeyer said, “Our younger racers handled the course tonight in tough ski conditions.”
Coach Marc Power said. “I was pleased our racers did so well in the icy conditions.”
