Darien High School Wins Girls Swimming & Diving Class L Title

Since 2000, Darien girls swimming & diving has won nine Class L championships, three Class M championships and six Class S titles.

DARIEN, CT — Once again, Darien High School has won the CIAC Class L girls swimming and diving championship.

The championship was held Tuesday at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford.

The Blue Wave led the way with with 789.5 points, followed by Cheshire with 588, Wilton with 478 and New Canaan with 467.

This latest win continues the dominance the DHS girls swimming and diving team has had over the past two-plus decades.

Since 2000, Darien has now won nine Class L championships, three Class M championships and six Class S titles.

Darien won five of 12 final events.

In the 200 yard medley relay, seniors Margaret Erickson, Emily Kalvaitis and Natalia Ferranto, and Miller Ward, a junior, won with a final time of 1:46.59 and contributed 60 points to Darien's total.

Ward also won the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:01.98, and the 100-yard butterfly at 55.52.

Ferranto took home the 50-yard freestyle event with a final time of 23.89. S

Ferranto and fellow seniors Lily Bradbury and Lily Voigt, and junior Liisa Jalakas, won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1:38.50.

The Blue Wave will turn its attention to the State Open Championship. Diving was scheduled to begin Thursday night at Middletown. Other events are slated for 2 p.m., Sunday.
