Darien To Host 'Experience the Revolution' Living History Event Across 3 Sites: Details

Presented by Middlesex Parish 250, the event brings living history, reenactments and colonial demos to three Darien sites.

DARIEN, CT — A daylong, family-friendly living history event is scheduled for May 2 across three sites in Darien as part of a broader commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary.

The event, "Experience the Revolution," will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is organized as part of the Middlesex Parish 250 initiative, which marks the semiquincentennial of the nation’s founding and highlights the Revolutionary War history of Darien and Rowayton, once known as Middlesex Parish.

Programming will be held at three locations: the Museum of Darien from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Mather Homestead from 2 to 4 p.m., and Highland Farm throughout the day.

At the Museum of Darien, visitors are scheduled to see members of the Fifth Connecticut Regiment in period attire demonstrating aspects of colonial life, including artisan skills, military drills and the daily routines of Revolutionary War soldiers. Activities are also set to include children’s drill exercises, displays of 18th-century toys and exhibits on colonial-era flags. A silhouette artist will be on site offering hand-cut portraits by appointment.

There will also be a special appearance by George Washington on horseback.

In the afternoon, programming will shift to the Mather Homestead, where a Revolutionary War reenactment is planned featuring both Patriot and British reenactor groups.

At Highland Farm, visitors can take part in a self-guided historical experience featuring approximately 250 markers that recount stories tied to the area’s Revolutionary past.

The May 2 event is one of several planned throughout the year as part of the Middlesex Parish 250 celebration, which includes exhibits, reenactments and educational programming across the community.
