Darien Little League Proposes $15K Gift For Field Evaluation
The evaluation would improve and restore two baseball fields and a softball field at McGuane Park.
DARIEN, CT — Darien Little League is proposing a $15,000 gift to the town for a professional evaluation of the three athletic fields at McGuane Park.
According to a memo from Parks & Recreation Director Pamela Gery to Town Administrator Kate Buch, the purpose of the professional evaluation is to bring the two baseball fields and one softball field "back to the same high-quality condition that they were in when they were first installed."
The Board of Selectmen is scheduled to discuss and consider acceptance of the gift during the next meeting on March 20.

Gery said the fields have been maintained "but not rescanned or fundamentally improved upon" over the last two decades.
"The evaluation will identify where the grading issues are and the scope of work required to fix them," Gery said in her memo. "This evaluation will provide solutions that will help improve the quality of the Little League fields through infiltration rate tests, laboratory testing and analysis and irrigation evaluation."

Gery noted that the Darien Little League will consider donating additional funds based on the results of the evaluation.
Last month, the Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the donation proposal. After the Board of Selectmen consider it, the approval will go to the Board of Finance.
