Darien Little League Softball 11-12 All-Stars Win District Title

The Darien girls jumped out to a 2-0 lead at Wilton Middlebrook School Friday night with hits from Reagan Adiletta (SS) and Leilani Gillespie (CF). Katherine Lindell (2B) and Lee Lee Sharp (1B) picked up the game's first two RBI's with a fielders choice and sacrifice fly respectively. Wilton scored in the bottom of the first keeping the game close at 2-1.

Gillespie singled and scored in the 3rd inning on a fielders choice hit off the bat of Sharp. Wilton answered in the bottom of the 3rd to keep the game a nail-biter at 3-2 with Darien holding a slim lead going into the 4th inning.

The Darien bats came alive in the 5th inning, with triples from Gillespie and Ava Faugno (C) and a double from Sharp. Aubrey Moore's (RF) single to left center drove in the 4th run of the inning for Darien putting the score at 7-2 heading into the bottom of the 5th.

Delaney Das (P) pitched all 6 innings, hurling 10 strikeouts against Wilton batters. Catcher Ava Faugno threw out 2 steal attempts, thwarting any Wilton resurgence in the later innings.

Darien will represent CT Little League District 1 in Sectionals play vs District 2 (Fairfield or Westport) and District 4 (Amity or Milford) pending the results of their District Championships tonight. Sectionals begin Thursday at Wilton Middlebrook School @ 5:45 with Darien playing the District 2 champion. The team that wins the Section, goes on to the State Final 4, and eventually a regional and national tournament. The tournament ends with the Little League Softball National Championship in Portland, Oregon in August.
