Darien Little League Team Keeps Williamsport Dreams Alive

DARIEN, CT — Following an 8-2 loss against New Jersey on Aug. 8 in Bristol, the Darien Little League team rebounded with a 6-2 second-round, elimination game victory over Rhode Island the next day to keep their Little League World Series dreams alive.

Darien jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Jack Houlihan drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Rhode Island tied the game in the fourth inning, but Darien went ahead for good in the bottom half.

Hugh Butler stole third and later scored on a passed ball. Alex Abelson then ripped an RBI single to left field, scoring Chase Sutter.

Charlie MacLane then knocked in a run with a double to left, and Johnny Huntington and Logan Masi both walked with the bases loaded to push the score to 6-1.

Rhode Island got a run back in the top of the fifth, but Darien was able to close out the game to secure the win.

Darien is set to play the loser of Monday's game between New Jersey and New York. Darien is scheduled to play another elimination game on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
