Darien Little League Team Wins CT State Championship, Advances To Metro Regional
Darien's quest for Williamsport, Pa. and the Little League World Series will continue after a historic victory on Sunday.
DARIEN, CT — For the first time in 60 years, a Little League team from Darien is headed to the Metro Regional.
Darien defeated Waterford on Sunday 7-4 at Foley Field in Naugatuck to win the Connecticut Little League Championship.
Catcher Hugh Butler sparked the Darien offense with a first inning home run, and Darien tacked on two more runs to take a 3-0 advantage.

In the third inning, Luca Hidaka laced a two-run double in the gap to put Darien ahead 5-0.
Waterford was able to pull within a run at 5-4, but Butler sealed the win with his second home run of the game - a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth to put Darien ahead for good.

Darien's quest for Williamsport, Pa. and the Little League World Series will continue on Saturday, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. in Bristol against the New Jersey state champion.
Last year, the Fairfield National Little League All-Stars reached the Little League World Series and finished third.
