Darien Man Accused Of Coming To Greenwich To Meet Underage Girl: GPD

Police said they conducted an undercover operation which culminated in the arrest of a Darien man on Sept. 23.

GREENWICH, CT — A Darien man was arrested on Sept. 23 after police said he came to Greenwich to meet up with a 14-year-old girl.

David Rewcastle, 59, was charged with criminal attempt/risk of injury to a child, and criminal attempt/enticing a minor by computer. Rewcastle was held on a $150,000 bond, the Greenwich Police Department said.

In the week leading up to Rewcastle's arrest, the GPD's Special Victims Section conducted an undercover operation in which a detective purported to be a 14-year-old girl in an online chat application, police said.

The detective befriended Rewcastle, who began to steer the conversation towards becoming more sexually explicit in nature, police said.

Rewcastle also described sex acts he wanted to perform on the girl "in real life," according to police.

"The investigation culminated with Rewcastle making plans to meet with the 'girl' in person in a specific location within the town of Greenwich to carry out these sexual acts," police said in an arrest report.

On Sept.23, Rewcastle came to Greenwich and was arrested without incident at the agreed upon location on Loughlin Avenue in Cos Cob, an arrest report said.

Rewcastle was assigned a court date of Sept. 26. His next court date is Nov. 21, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Rewcastle has served as an adjunct professor at the University of New Haven for the past four years.

The university confirmed Rewcastle's employment to Patch, and said he's been suspended.

"Upon learning of his arrest, the University immediately suspended him, pending an investigation. As this is an active investigation being led by the Greenwich Police Department, the university will have no further comment at this time," a university spokesperson said in an email.
