WALLINGFORD, CT — A 90-year-old Darien man was killed in a crash with a pickup truck that also sent his 82-year-old passenger to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Sunday evening in Wallingford, according to police. The fatal crash occurred on South Colony Road at its intersection with Northfield Road at about 6:40 p.m. on Oct. 15.
Edward Carabillo, 90, of Darien, was killed after the 2016 Audi A3 Convertible he was operating collided with a 2012 Nissan Titan pickup truck, according to Lt. Anthony DeMaio. The front-seat passenger in the Audi, Natalie Einson, 82, was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she is being evaluated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to DeMaio.

“The investigation, which is ongoing, has revealed that the Audi operated by Carabillo was traveling westbound on Northfield Road just prior to the collision,” DeMaio wrote in a press release. “The Nissan operated by Bonito was travelling northbound on South Colony Road in the right-most travel lane. Carabillo attempted to negotiate a left-hand turn from Northfield Road, intending to travel south bound on South Colony Road. The collision occurred as Carabillo’s Audi entered the intersection and encountered the northbound Nissan Titan.”
The section of the road was closed for about 3 ½ hours as police reconstructed the collision.
