Darien Memorial Day Program To Feature History Teacher

DARIEN — Darien’s Monuments and Ceremonies Commission has announce Middlesex Middle School History Teacher Lucy Berry will be the keynote speaker at the Memorial Day Veterans Dedication Ceremony to be held in Spring Grove Veterans Cemetery Monday.

The ceremony is immediately following this year’s Memorial Day Parade, which is at 10 a.m. starting at the Goodwives Shopping Center on Old Kings Highway North.

The ceremony will take place in front of the Veterans Circle Flagpole in Spring Grove Veterans Cemetery, 41 Hecker Ave., at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 30.

Berry comes from a family with deep ties to the U.S. Navy. She attended Darien public schools from grades one through 12 and has taught history at Middlesex for many years.

In addition to implementing the middle school’s ‘What Memorial Day Means To Me’ prose and poetry program, she initiated the town’s Wartime Veterans Street Sign program.

All are encouraged to attend.

In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held in the Community Room of the Darien Library, directly across the street from the cemetery.
