Darien Moves Toward Computer for Every Grade 4-12 Student

The proposed budget comes with an ask for $487,000 for new computer equipment

Darien’s proposed budget would move the district toward a 1:1 model for every student in grades 4-12 to have a computing device.

The proposal asks for $487,000 in the 2016-2017 budget for computer equipment, according to the Darien Times.

Current plans call for a four-year rollout of the plan. Students in grades 4-7 would get a Chromebook, which is a type of lower-powered laptop that is smaller and cheaper than traditional laptops. It primarily focuses on cloud-based services such as Google Docs for storage and programs.
