Darien Names New Chief Of Police
He is currently a captain in the department and is the son of a deceased former Darien Police Chief.
DARIEN, CT — Captain Donald Anderson, a member of the department since 1983, has been named the next Chief of the Darien Police Department, the Darien Police Commission announced Thursday. Anderson is the son of the late Darien Police Chief Bruce Anderson, who served in the department's top post from 1988 to 1993.
Anderson will take over as chief at the end of the summer upon the retirement of Chief Ray Osborne, who announced his decision to step down in April after a 35-year career. He will be the department's 11th Police Chief.
"I am extremely happy with the police commission's decision to appoint Don Anderson as Darien's next Chief of Police," said Osborne in a statement. "In the coming weeks we will be working closely together to ensure a smooth transition. Don is a true professional and he is extremely qualified for this position. Congratulations to the future Chief Anderson."

Currently, Anderson holds the position of Captain of the Administrative Services Bureau, and he became a Captain in 2013.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999, Lieutenant in 2000, and he has also served as a member of the Detective Division and as a member of the Specialized Accident Investigation Team.

Captain Anderson is a state-certified Motor Vehicle Accident Investigation Instructor. Anderson is also a graduate of the 245 th session of the FBI National Academy. Captain Anderson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Sacred Heart University and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Iona College.
He is the son of the late Bruce M. Anderson, who also served as Darien’s Chief of Police from February 19, 1988 to July 3, 1993.
