Darien National to Face North Stamford in Semifinals

The team finishes at 5-1 in round robin play after losing to Springdale, 13-12, on Tuesday

The pairings are set for the District One Little League playoffs—and Darien National has made the cut.

Darien (5-1) finished second in Pool B after losing, 13-12, on Tuesday to Springdale, which finished first in the group with a 6-0 mark.

Darien is now scheduled to take on North Stamford Thursday (5:45 p.m) at Federal's Frank Noto Field. In the other semifinal, National Lione will face Springdale at Stamford's Caporizzo Field, also at 5:45 p.m.

Despite Tuesday's inclement weather, District One officials were able to get in the final round robin games.

National Lione (4-2) took the runner-up spot in that division after defeating Wilton, 9-1.

Darien American won its final three round robin games, including an 11-0 win over Ridgefield American on Tuesday, to finish tied for second with National Lione in Pool A. The team ultimately lost the tiebreaker, however, based on its 7-1 setback to National Lione.

Had National Lione lost to Wilton, Darien could have claimed the No. 2 spot in its pool and possibly set up a Darien vs. Darien semifinal on Thursday. Darien National had clinched a playoff spot before Tuesday's defeat.

The winner of the District One title advances to the Connecticut state Section One tournament, which begins next week in Shelton.
