Lonnie Rawden, playing in the first singles slot, went down, 6-0, 6-2, against the Rams' Ben Lee.

"It was tough going against a nationally ranked player," Rawden said. "He was as good as I thought he was going to be, and that's all there is to it."

The Blue Wave's Britt Gordon, who was playing second singles, fell to Chase Urban,  6-0, 6-1.

"In the second set I was down 1-2 and had a chance to come back 2-2," Gordon said, "but I had a double fault and a careless error. I definitely could have done better, even with the heat."

The Rams' Kevin Budrawich, manning the third singles slot, dominated Reilly Harmer,  6-1, 6-3. Likewise, the Blue Wave's Cal Kevorkian lost to Will Burger, 6-0, 6-1, in the No. 4 number singles.

"New Canaan has a fantastic team," Stepkoski added. "They have a lot of power and a much better shot selection than we have. It was a privilege to play them."
