Darien Officer Involved in Crash, Two Sent to Hospital

The officer was monitoring traffic for possible suspect vehicles.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien Police officer and the operator of another vehicle were transported to the hospital after a motor vehicle crash.

The crashed happened at the intersection of Noroton Avenue and Ledge Road around 2:14 a.m, said Detective Mark Cappelli, police spokesman.

The officer was en route to a report of vandalism in the area and approached the intersection with the intent of looking for possible suspect vehicles.

"The officer believed he saw a vehicle entering the south bound ramp of I-95," Cappelli said. "As he continued to watch for the vehicle, his vehicle entered the intersection with Ledge Road and collided with another vehicle."

Two occupants were in the other vehicle. The operator complained of pain and was transported to the hospital; the officer was transported as a precaution.
