Darien P&Z To Continue Public Hearing On High School Stadium Lights, PA System Proposal

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Planning & Zoning Commission is scheduled to continue a public hearing Tuesday on proposed changes to the use of the Darien High School stadium lights and public address system following a court-ordered remand.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, at 7 p.m. in Room 206 at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road. The agenda includes public hearings, providing opportunities for public participation on those applications.

The hearing on the stadium lights and PA system stems from a Superior Court order directing the commission to reconsider the application's compliance with the town's sound and noise regulations and any appropriate conditions related to an amendment to Special Permit No. 188-F.

The original application proposed amending the zoning regulations and a special permit to allow the stadium's lighting and public address facilities to be used for nonprofit educational and community purposes beyond athletic activities.

It also sought expanded hours and days for the use of the lighting and public address system and to permit community-wide events, including activities by organizations unaffiliated with the town or school district.

The commission is also scheduled to hold public hearings on several land use applications, including a proposal to install a canopy over the existing fuel dispensers at the Valero station at 1927 Boston Post Road, relocate the parish school playground at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, and replace a pool house, reconfigure site features and construct a tennis court at a Long Neck Point Road property on Hay Island.

During its general meeting, commissioners are expected to consider a request from The Mather Homestead Foundation to modify its special permit on a one-time basis to allow more than 400 attendees at a Fall Harvest Festival in October.

The commission also may deliberate on any public hearings that close during the meeting.
